Master ECCE

Adults ∙ Exam Prep Courses

This course focuses on a targeted preparation for the University of Michigan ECCE exam (Level B2). It includes intensive practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking as defined for the ECCE exam drawing on new trends in educational technology and language teaching.

At this level, students are typically expected to be able to: 

  • understand the main ideas as well as the details of longer texts on both concrete and abstract topics
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native and non-native speakers quite possible without strain for either party
  • produce a clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects or a letter and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue
  • meet the requirements of the B2 level certification exams of the University of Michigan (ECCE)

This course provides practice in reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary. It also includes familiarization with the ECCE format and preparation for the examination.

  • The reading component typically consists of adapted and authentic texts as included in the selected textbooks used or in the additional teaching material designed by the Academic Team specifically for the needs of the course. Students will get practice in the types of reading activities found in the ECCE exam. 
  • The listening component typically consists of listening activities included in the ECCE exam, such as dialogues and interviews requiring responses to both pictures and written prompts, etc.
  • The writing component consists of writing descriptive and opinion essays, letters, emails etc. and practicing on writing activities found in the ECCE exam.
  • The speaking component typically consists of exam simulation and pronunciation practice, discussing topics, describing events, role-playing, dialogues, giving advice, etc., and practice in the types of speaking activities found in the ECCE exam.
  • The grammar component consists of the complete verb system and its subcases, the use of gerunds/infinitives and the subcases-exceptions to their use, direct and indirect speech, passive voice, causative form, conditionals and wishes, inversion, etc.
  • The vocabulary component consists of phrases, synonyms-antonyms, word building, expressions, idioms, collocations, dependent prepositions, sophisticated vocabulary associated with the topics, etc. Particular emphasis will be given to the vocabulary contained in the practice tests for the ECCE exam.
  • Students will practice through tests simulating the time and conditions of the exams.
