What is the TOEFL Junior®?

The TOEFL Junior® Test is a general English proficiency assessment that is not based on or limited to any specific curriculum. It is a paper-based test for students aged 11 – 14 designed to measure the following skills:

  • Listening comprehension
  • Reading comprehension
  • Language, Form and Meaning

Why students take the TOEFL Junior® Test

The TOEFL Junior® Test can:

  • provide parents and schools with objective information about studentsprogress in developing English-language skills
  • serve as a comprehensive measurement that can be used to place students in English language-learning programs that have been mapped onto the Common European framework of References for Languages (CEFR)
  • assess the English communication skills of students who are considering studying at a school or university in which the language of instruction is English

How often is the TOEFL Junior® test administered?

The TOEFL Junior® takes place upon request and after the required number of test takers has been met in Athens, Thessaloniki and other examination centers in Greece.

Who administers the TOEFL Junior® exams in Greece?

The Hellenic American Union is the exclusive test administrator in Greece for TOEFL Junior®.

When are the results announced?

Results are announced approximately seven working days after the test date.

If I have a disability can I still take the TOEFL Junior® test?

The Hellenic American Union provides equal opportunities to everyone. Candidates who need special accommodations should contact the Helleic American Union EPN Office 10 days prior to the test date. This will allow the Examinations Department time to make the appropriate arranges. There is no additional cost for providing special accommodations.

Is there a different test for each level?

There is only one test for all candidates.

How can I be informed about my scores?

All candidates, regardless of their scores, receive a detailed score report. Score reports also provide a description of the English-language abilities typical of test-takers scoring around a particular scaled score level. Levels are mapped onto the Common European framework of References for Languages (CEFR).


To register for the TOEIC Junior® Test you first create an account on the ORFEAS registration system by following the step-by-step instructions provided on the platform. Once your account is set, select the test you wish to take part in, as well as the date and examination center. In the last step of the registration process, you will be provided with a choice of payment options to use and pay for the examination fees. You will receive all the necessary information for the day of your exam via email or SMS.


Individual score reports for each candidate are sent to Language Schools the day after the announcement of the results.

Scoring

TOEFL Junior® Scoring

Scores are determined by the number of questions a student has answered correctly. There is no penalty for wrong answers. The number of correct responses on each section is converted to a scaled number that ranges from 200 to 300 points. The total score is a sum of the three section scores, and, therefore, ranges from 600 to 900 points.

Rescoring

  • Due to the purposes of the TOEFL Junior® tests, their results are not rescored. The former is a low stakes examination assisting schools, teachers and parents to track the progress that students are making in the study of English whereas the latter is used by language schools, universities and other organizations to assess the language skills of their students or employees.

Score Reports

TOEFL Junior® individual score reports for each candidate are sent to Language Schools the day after the announcement of the results. Score reports for individual candidates are sent to the postal address showing on their registration form.

All TOEFL Junior® candidates, regardless of their scores, receive a detailed score report. Score reports also provide a description of the English-language abilities typical of test-takers scoring around a particular scaled score level. Levels are mapped onto the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR).



How can I apply?

Use this link to enter the ORFEAS online registration system. From there, follow the steps as suggested. Choose your exam, date and venue and then provide your personal details. In the last step you will be asked to pay with your card of choice. All the information you will need for the day of the exam will arrive in your inbox via email and SMS.

What if I have a question about the procedure?

If you have any questions about the procedure, even as you complete the steps in the process, contact us on 2103680000 for assistance. We have staff available from 9 am - 7 pm on weekdays to help you complete the registration process and answer your questions.

Can I see the status of my registration after I have applied?

Once you complete your registration you will be sent updates on the status of your application. For example, any changes to the date of the examination, if these occur, will be communicated to you via email, SMS or telephone by our support team.
