A tribute to George Zongolopoulos, featuring works by contemporary Greek artists correlating with selected works by the renowned Greek sculptor
In 1971, George Zongolopoulos presented a pioneering exhibition at the Hellenic American Union galleries, his Kinetic Art show, which marked a new chapter in his artistic career. 45 years later, the exhibition has inspired this tribute to the renowned Greek artist entitled Silent Presence: Meeting Zongolopoulos, 45 years later.
The exhibition, curated by art historian Iris Kritikou, features works by contemporary Greek sculptors and painters around a core of original artwork by Zongolopoulos. Although the participating artists do not entirely share the great sculptor’s artistic idiom, they do demonstrate elective affinities with his work in terms of their concerns and the symbols, structure and materialsthey use or even their line and forms.
