What are the TOEFL® Primary™ Tests (Step 1 & Step 2)?
The TOEFL® Primary™ tests (Step 1 & Step 2) are general English proficiency assessments that are not based on or limited to any specific curriculum. They are paper-based tests for students aged 8-11, designed to measure the following skills:
- Listening comprehension
- Reading comprehension

Results are announced approximately seven working days after the test date.
If I have a disability can I still take the TOEFL® Primary™ Tests (Step 1 & Step 2)?
The Hellenic American Union provides equal opportunities to everyone. Candidates who need special accommodations should contact the Hellenic American Union EPN Office of Center for Examinations and Certifications 10 days prior to the test date. This will allow the Examinations Department time to make the appropriate arranges. There is no additional cost for providing special accommodations.
Is there a different test for each level?
Yes, there are two different tests, Step 1 and Step 2.
How can I be informed about my scores?
All candidates, regardless of their scores, receive a detailed score report. Score reports also provide a description of the English-language abilities typical of test-takers scoring around a particular scaled score level. Levels are mapped onto the Common European framework of References for Languages (CEFR).
To register for the TOEFL® Primary™ Tests (Step 1 & Step 2) you first create an account on the ORFEAS registration system by following the step-by-step instructions provided on the platform. Once your account is set, select the test you wish to take part in, as well as the date and examination center. In the last step of the registration process, you will be provided with a choice of payment options to use and pay for the examination fees. You will receive all the necessary information for the day of your exam via email or SMS.
Score reports include both levels and scale scores. Step 1 levels are shown as stars, and Step 2 levels are shown as badges. Proficiency descriptors and recommended next steps for learning are provided for each level. The descriptors and next steps are appropriate for typical students at that level but may not apply to all students. Student ability includes skills at that level and levels below.
Scale scores are shown at the bottom of the score report. The scale score range across Step 1 and Step 2 together is 100–115. Scale scores can help show student progress within a level.
On Step 1, students can earn a scale score of 101–109. Step 1 does not assess content in the scale range of 110–115.
On Step 2, students can earn a scale score of 104–115. Step 2 does not assess content in the scale range of 101–103.
Students receiving a level of one star and a scale score of 100 may be at the very beginning stages of learning English. Students receiving one badge and a scale score of 100 may receive better information about their proficiency levels by taking Step 1.
Educational Testing Service (ETS®) test scores are mapped to the levels of the Common European framework of References for Languages (CEFR) as follows:

Score Reports
TOEFL® Primary™ Tests (Step 1 & Step 2) individual score reports for each candidate are sent to Language Schools the day after the announcement of the results. Score reports for individual candidates are sent to the postal address showing on their registration form.

How can I apply?
Use this link to enter the ORFEAS online registration system. From there, follow the steps as suggested. Choose your exam, date and venue and then provide your personal details. In the last step you will be asked to pay with your card of choice. All the information you will need for the day of the exam will arrive in your inbox via email and SMS.

Can I see the status of my registration after I have applied?
Once you complete your registration you will be sent updates on the status of your application. For example, any changes to the date of the examination, if these occur, will be communicated to you via email, SMS or telephone by our support team.
